Join us in spreading hope and nourishment again this year during Ramadan! Help feed a Moroccan family for Ramadan for $60.
For the second year, we're proud to be raising money for Amal Non-Profit. The Marrakech based organization is accepting donations to be able to provide baskets to villages affected by last year’s earthquake as well as to families in difficult situations in the city, as there is a growing community in need.
Each Ramadan food basket is priced at $60.00 and contains essential food items.
But, here's where it gets even better – when you donate through bsaha, we're matching 50% of all donations up to a total maximum donation of $1,000! That means your generosity goes even further in making a difference.
Each basket contains foods including:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Lentils
- Chickpeas
- Barley (Balboula)
- Rice
- Honey
- Jam
- Tea
- Coffee
- Dates
- Yeast
- Salt
- Milk
- Oil
- Tomato Paste
- Pasta
Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by the earthquake as well as those located in Marrakech in difficult situations by ensuring they have the sustenance they need during the month of Ramadan. Simply add the number of baskets you’d like to donate to your cart alongside your other items and check out.
Donations collected later in the month of Ramadan will be used to provide food baskets to the same community but may contain items less targeted toward Ramadan.
100% of the money collected on bsaha will be distributed to Amal Non-Profit along with our donation match.
If you prefer to donate to Amal Non-Profit directly or need documentation of your donation for tax purposes, you can donate directly through their website www.amalnonprofit.org by selecting “Ramadan” in the donation menu.
About Amal Non-Profit:
Founded in 2012 to give Moroccan women from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to transform their lives.
Their "champions" come for a 9-month hands-on culinary training program that aims to build on the amazing cooking skills they already have and build a professional skill set they can work with at any restaurant.
The program includes other activities like language learning, life coaching, and food tastings at different restaurants. Around 300 women have gone through the program and rewritten their narratives.
They run a popular social restaurant where guests can enjoy the food cooked by our students and their trainers.
They also have a Moroccan cooking class open to visitors every day to learn traditional dishes.
In 2018, a small café run by deaf women was launched.
Starting in the pandemic, they expanded into emergency relief, distributing 80 tons of food during the height of Covid-19.
Every Ramadan they distribute food baskets to families struggling to make ends meet.
After the earthquake, relief work became an even bigger part of what they do. They have been focused on 27 villages affected by the earthquake, including the building of 325 semi-permanent wood homes to help people get out of tents. They are currently engaged in some exciting economic recovery projects including beekeeping, resupplying the region with sheep to replace the herds that were lost during and after the earthquake, and helping the villagers develop the region's main crops of almonds and walnuts into new products like granola and energy bars.
